1. Practice Chaos Returns With Drain-Cover Issues

The weekend started with déjà vu: a loose drain cover near Turn 17 caused multiple red flags and cut valuable running time in FP1 and FP2. Teams struggled to complete programmes. Lando Norris topped FP2 — though few drivers got proper long-run data.

2. Williams - Impressive Qualifying

One of the biggest surprises was Williams delivering one of their best qualifying showings of the season. Both drivers maximized single-lap pace, and the car looked confident on the low-grip surface. Their performance put them in strong contention for points — a major momentum boost for the team.

3. Drivers Split on Vegas’ Late-Night Schedule

The late-night schedule once more divided the drivers. Some appeared visibly exhausted from traveling and racing at such a late hour, while others appreciated the track's design for its lengthy straights and overtaking chances. Although the race remained a major spectacle, the lengthy day evidently had a physical impact.

4. McLaren’s Double Disaster: Both Cars Out After DSQ

The biggest twist of the weekend came after the race. Both McLarens were disqualified for excessive skid-block wear, erasing what could have been a strong haul of points. The decision reshuffled the entire top ten and massively hurt McLaren’s championship hopes. It was one of the most dramatic classification changes of the year.

5. Verstappen Wins, Antonelli Scores Breakthrough Podium

Max Verstappen took a controlled victory, managing pace and tyres despite the cold conditions. Behind him, the classification shake-up promoted:

  • George Russell to P2

  • Kimi Antonelli to a breakout P3

Antonelli’s early switch to the hard tyres proved to be one of the smartest strategy calls of the race. Leclerc also delivered a strong recovery drive, adding more excitement to a busy midfield.

Summary

The 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix had everything: practice problems, shock qualifying results, a post-race double DSQ, and a rookie podium. Williams impressed early, McLaren suffered the biggest hit, and Verstappen tightened the title fight once again.
